follow him So you want to follow Jesus closely, growing in your knowledge of His Word and allowing Him to transform your character? You want to serve His church practically, strengthening and supporting what He is doing at the harbor and at other churches in the region and around the world? And you want to learn how to reproduce life-on-life discipleship so that new churches are birthed and established locally or overseas? The Navigate Training School is for you.
module 1
The focus of the first year of the Navigate Training School is on the heart attitudes & habits of a disciple. Life-transforming teachings on topics ranging from the father heart of God to disciplines such as prayer & fasting to key attitudes such as brokenness & humility constitute the curriculum’s core. Regular Bible verse memorization, a nine-month read-through of the Bible, and the reading of classic discipleship books such as Brother Lawrence’s Practicing the Presence of God ensure that the student is feeding an ever-growing hunger to know and follow Jesus.
module 2
The Navigate Training School’s second year focuses on the competencies of a church-planter. Drawing on over twenty years of experience as a movement with missionaries in the field on several continents, the curriculum equips the student for the rigors of church planting, both stateside and overseas. Topics include: church history and a history of missions; a survey of world religions & cults and Biblical keys to effectively engaging those of other worldviews; Biblical discipleship models and other discipleship strategies for the workplace and for the church; church-planting team dynamics and effective team-building; public speaking and sermon preparation; and a brief overview of Biblical counseling.
In both Mod 1 and Mod 2, evening class sessions typically begin in worship with an emphasis on the development of spiritual gifts. Followed by a round-table discussion of the week’s Biblical and outside readings, the evening’s main teaching ensues. Harbor leaders, guests from churches, ministries & colleges in the region, visiting missionaries from overseas, and teachings on DVD all serve as lecturers at NTS!
go
A capstone experience of the Navigate Training School is the short-term summer mission trip. Lasting from 1 – 4 weeks (depending on vacation restraints of team members), the outreach exposes the student to the realities of church planting, typically in a cross-cultural context. Trip destinations include nations where the harbor’s sister churches are already establishing works or those nations where the harbor is exploring the possibility of church planting in the near future. Regardless of the destination, students return with more of Jesus’ ravished heart for the peoples of the earth!
