Welcome to the Harbor! (continued) Haven for the broken Prophetically speaking of Jesus of Nazareth, the 8th-century B.C. writer Isaiah foretold of his coming by saying that “a bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.”[1] Life being as hard as it is, we hope that through the manifest presence of Jesus in the midst of our community, many people—those who profess belief in Christ, those wrestling with issues of faith, those who are searching for truth, and even those not yet awakened to their longing for life’s ultimate meaning—will be able to enjoy the refuge that God provides through His people at the Harbor.
Launch to the nations Finding that we experience God’s most profound blessings when we attend to the things that are closest to His heart, we at the Harbor take seriously Jesus’ desire to surround His Father’s throne with people “from every tribe and language and people and nation.”[2] The same prophet, Isaiah, indicated that Jesus “will bring justice to the nations….he will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on the earth.”[3] If there ever was a time when the nations of the earth were crying out for justice, it is now! In response, we at the Harbor aim to equip women and men either to reinvest in the North Shore or to be sent to serve in the nations of the world. All that we do—from our small groups, called faithgroups, to our Sunday celebration services, to our overseas trips and to the discipleship/missions training school we hope to launch in the near future—revolves around this desire to reproduce the justice-establishing life of Christ by multiplying local groups of mature followers of Jesus all over the planet.
As you browse this website, may you begin to feel the heartbeat of the people of the Harbor. Of course, the best way to get to know us would be to join us at a Sunday celebration service or weeknight faithgroup. Please come soon!
